Fraction Think Board

This term for maths our focus has been fractions. Today Mrs P shared to us a fraction think board then we made a copy, chose a fraction and did the work about that fraction. I chose to do four fifths.

I found this activity rather challenging because I'm not good at fractions, the part that was rather hard was changing the fraction into a decimal and also finding Equivalent Fractions.

Next time I would choose a harder fraction such as an improper fraction like 8/5.

Here is my fraction think board:

What Is A Fairy Tale???

W.A.L.T:Locate fairy tales in the library using the Dewey Decimal System.

This Week in literacy we have been looking at fairy tales. We had to look around our school library and find a fairy tale book.

I found this rather hard since I looked in the wrong section of the library!  At first I thought they would be in the fiction section however they are actually in the non fiction section.

Next we had to create a presentation explaining what makes a fairy tale and why they are in the non fiction section.  Here is mine.

The Three Billy Goats Gruff Setting Map

This week in literacy we had to watch a video of a fairy tale then we had to draw a picture of the setting here is my finished map.  We had to include a key explaining each of the settings and the order they came up in the story.  I enjoyed this activity because I liked being able to drawing as part of my learning.  Next time I would make the key a bit bigger so it is easier to read.

Loch ness Monster Drawing

W.A.L.T:Draw a visualisation of Nessie.

This term for reading we are doing unexplained mysteries the first mystery we focused on was the loch ness monster(Nessie)
For this task we had to read the description up top and draw what we thought she looked like. Then we had to label the parts. This is my finished work.  Is this what you imagine the Loch ness monster might look like?

Wonderopolis My Wonderings

W.A.L.T:Find out our wondering's.
This Term in literacy we have been searching Wonderopilis for our wonders. We get to choose a question and rewrite it in our own words.
I find this quite exciting because you can find out about mysteries and wonders.

Arahura Marae

On Tuesday 7th August Rata 5,Totara 2,Te Hiringa and Mamaku 2 went to Arahura Marae in Hokitika.
This was a very interesting experience and most kids never had been to a Marae so most kids didn't know what was in store!
We went by van,car and bus, when we got there we lined up with girls in the front and the boys in the back because of a tradition if they were attacked the boys would protect the girls.
When we were in the Marae we sat down on rows of chairs(the boys were in the front)We did greetings and a hungi then it was almost time for kai.(food)
Once we had finished kai we went back into the Marae for Mihi's(introducing yourself in Maori)then we listened to the stories about the chiefs.
Took the photo and went back to school.
I would give the Marae 100% great!!!

My Treasure Writing

W.A.L.T: use conjunctions to join the words together.
W.A.L.T:include descriptive detail.
This term we have been focusing on our personal treasure and writing about my treasure as you will see above.
She is Milly a stuffed animal.
This task was really cool and we got to find out our  friend's treasure some of them might not have meant much to other people  but it meant a lot to them.
I found putting fanboys in my writing was actually rather hard!!!
           What's your precious treasure?
