Eel Summary

Hydro Tasmania has made something new and unique;a hole in a dam wall. The dam in question is a man made dam. They made the hole to help the eels, which are called the slippery short finned eel, migrate the 3000km to New Caledonia. The hole cost $1,000,000 dollars to make and was called the Eel Bypass.

The slippery short finned eel lives in dams for about 10-35 until they are classed as mature, then they make the journey (called the migration) downstream from December to April to complete their breeding cycle before they die. The larval (baby eels or glass eels) then drifts on the current.

The reasons for the hole are that they also made an eel ladder which will help the eels swim upstream. Another purpose for the eel ladder is that the eels survival depends on the ladder so the eels can reach the breeding spot so they don’t die out.

There are only a few recorded people and companies involved Guy Barnett,Steve Davy and scientist David Ikedife helped support the hole. Hydro Tasmania helped make the hole.

 Eel Summary

This week our learning topic in class was eels. We were given a slide of information and had to take notes on it. After we had taken the notes we had to write some paragraphs on the notes. Here is my writing,I hope you enjoy.

Wonderopolis My Wonderings

W.A.L.T:Find out our wondering's.
This Term in literacy we have been searching Wonderopilis for our wonders. We get to choose a question and rewrite it in our own words.
I find this quite exciting because you can find out about mysteries and wonders.
